Sound familiar?
Does your logo look homemade?
Maybe you made it yourself in a weekend, a mate did it as a favour, or it came out of a free AI generator. That’s how lots of good businesses start. But if you’ve ever hesitated before handing over a business card, it might be time.
Five signs it’s holding you back
- It turns to mush when it’s small. As a Facebook or Google profile picture you can’t read it.
- Your printer or sign maker keeps asking for “a better file”. That usually means you only have a low-res JPEG.
- It only works on one background. Put it on your van, a dark photo or a coloured T-shirt and it falls apart.
- It looks like someone else’s. Generic icons and AI marks crop up on lots of businesses, sometimes in your own town.
- You’ve outgrown it. Your prices, customers or services have moved on, and the logo hasn’t.
One or two of these is common and often fixable with a tidy-up. Three or more and customers are probably noticing, even if they’d never say so.
Refresh or start again?
A refresh keeps what customers already recognise, usually the colour, the name style or a symbol, and fixes the rest: cleaner shapes, a better font, versions that work small and on dark backgrounds, and proper files. It’s quicker and cheaper, and it’s the right call more often than people expect.
A redesign makes sense when there’s nothing worth keeping, or when the business has changed so much the old logo tells the wrong story. You get three different directions and our honest view on which works best.
Either way you finish with every file you need for signs, print, your website and social, plus simple guidelines. That’s what we did for McPhail Career Development, where a tired tree became a sapling and the familiar blue stayed. See the refresh, or read more about our logo and brand design.
Questions about fixing a DIY logo
Will customers be confused if my logo changes?
Not if it’s handled well. A refresh keeps enough of the old one that regulars barely notice, while new customers see something more polished.
I only have a JPEG of my logo. Can you work from that?
Yes. We can redraw it properly as a vector file, which on its own fixes a lot of printing and signage headaches.
How much does it cost?
Logos start from £150. A refresh is often at the lower end. You’ll get a fixed quote before anything starts.
